Event: Bupa Great North Run 2014, on 7 September 2014
In memory of Stephen Thompson

Story

In 2010 I ran the Bupa GNR (for a laugh) with a close friend and colleague (Steve Thompson) having never taken part in long distance running before.

Tragically Steve passed away the following year when he was struck down with a rare type of heart disease Giant Cell Myocarditis for which little is known.

At present there is only one clinic in America that is currently running a research programme into this heart disease, details of which can be found at www.myocarditisfoundation.org.

Steve was a highly active person and someone who would always give up his time to help others having taken part is many charity events to raise money for others.

He was taken away from his family and friends so young and is hugely missed.

After stating I would never run a half marathon again (the fear of portable toilets was too much) I have signed up and will be pounding the streets of the beautiful North on September 7 2014.

The Stephen Thompson Foundation are hoping to raise sufficient funds so that research for Giant Cell Myocarditis can be set up within the UK. Please, please be generous in your donation for this cause

I will be stepping up my training in May!

THANK YOU!

Sarah.

About the charity

‘The Stephen Thompson Foundation’ was set up in December 2011. Following the tragic death of Stephen, those close to him were left with an overwhelming need to do something to help and to keep his memory alive by turning sadness into something positive. http://www.stephenthompsonfoundation.org/
