When I was asked if I might like to take part in Social
Bite’s CEO Sleep-Out in Edinburgh’s Charlotte Square, I thought it sounded like a fun night under the stars for a great cause with some interesting company including the likes of First Minister Nicola Sturgeon and six times Olympic gold medal winner Sir Chris Hoy.
Of course, taking place on December 15th with just a sleeping bag to fend off the elements from 7pm till 7am the following
morning, in reality it’s really not for the faint-hearted – it will likely be a
very cold and uncomfortable experience, even in the privileged surroundings of one of Edinburgh’s most prestigious addresses.
I’ve had a close relationship with Social Bite for some time
now, and couldn’t be more enthused by the amazing work that they do for some of Scotland’s most vulnerable people.
That’s why I’m joining the Sleep-Out - to raise much-needed
cash that will help to break the cycle of homelessness.
Specifically, the money will go directly towards building a
village for 20 people who will then receive huge support in seeking job
opportunities and, fundamentally, just how to exist – basic things that most of us take for granted everyday.
At Christmas time particularly, surrounded by family and
gifts, never more do we forget how lucky we are. However, it’s the festive season when the homeless are at their most vulnerable and lonely. Wouldn’t it be nice to alleviate that with a great fundraising effort that we can all be proud of?
Please take the time to donate and help make a difference.
