 My story starts back in 1990 when my mum first had her diagnosis and was told she had cancer, she was just 43 years old with a husband and 4 sons. I had just started basic training for the Royal Navy at the age of 17, as you can imagine the news turned my world upside down. 

The consultant who was treating my mum advised us that she had an estimated 6 months to live, however there were a new drugs they wanted to try, if she wanted to give it a go. I was only a young man when she was first diagnosed and didn't appreciate new drug being developed all the time, I was proven wrong without these developments in new treatments we wouldn't have had that extra time with her because thanks to the research she lived for another 14 years.

As we all know cancer does not discriminate against, age, race or gender. With the help of organisations like Cancer Research  U.K more people who get this disease are able to live longer or actually beat it.

This is a chance for me to help try and raise a little money for this vital research so others can benefit in the future. 

I first got back on a bike as an adult roughly 8 years ago, its true, you never forget how to ride a bike. However your body isn't quite so keen at the start, initial ride about 5 miles and looked like a panting beetroot at the end. Rather strange thing was I really enjoyed the challenge of getting fitter, faster and going for longer distances. 

Fast forward 8 years and here I am about to take on the this huge challenge of riding my bike for 9 consecutive days averaging over 100 miles a day climbing in excess of 50,000ft. Starting at Land's End on the 4th of September covering the 980 mile route finishing in John O'Groats on the 12th. Madness? Possibly, but if I can raise enough to help just 1 family it will be worth the effort.
