We raise money to transform the lives of sick babies

Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

Myself and four friends are going to ride the Bristol Nightrider 100K, which starts and finishes in Bristol but also includes the Bristol Hills and the fully illuminated Clifton Suspension Bridge to raise money to support 'Cots for Tots' as they helped support Alex and I when Ollie was in need of specialist care at St. Michael's NICU in Bristol.

Alex was transferred by Ambulance from Gloucester Royal Hospital on Saturday, 29th August 2015 having felt that something wasn't right.... after 3hrs in triage the consultant got a huge shock to see Alex was in the early stages of labour and call was made and a bed was made available at St. Michael's.

Upon arrival at St. Michael's the Staff managed to delay Ollie's arrival by a further 18 hours during which time Alex received magnesium drips to support Ollie's brain development and steroid injections for his lung development.  Alex had a natural delivery but Ollie was breach, in his sack and with his waters intact at 6.34pm.  He was resuscitated put on oxygen and taken to NICU where we had to wait for four hours before finally being allowed to see him.  During Ollie's stay in St Michael's, he suffered sepsis, entrabactra virus, two bleeds on the brain and 10 blood transfusions whilst remaining on ventilation for more than three weeks.

Five weeks into his stay Ollie's lungs collapsed and we were told he wasn't going to make it, however, the medical team gave him a shot of adrenaline and steroids and yet again Ollie responded well to the medication and within 48 hours he was back on milder ventilation and five days later we moved to our local hospital Gloucester Royal. We can't thank the 'Cots for Tots' team enough for their warmth, hospitality and support along with the lovely people we met whilst in the house, who were going through their own personal challenges.

As you can imagine this is a charity that is very close to Alex and I and, having been fortunate enough to come out the other side with Ollie, I've pulled together a bigger team of riders for 2017 to help us achieve greater things.

The charity raises funds for life-saving equipment and pioneering new facilities to transform the lives of babies from Bristol, the South West of England, South Wales and throughout the UK.

Any donations no matter how small would be hugely appreciated.
