We support Evelina London to provide compassionate, trailblazing care

Story

On the 8th May it would be a year to the day that our Mia was intubated and placed on a ventilator at Medway Hosptial before being rushed to the Evelina via The South Thames Retrieval Team. On this day Jon will be doing the full door to door route from Medway to the Evelina, Sophie will be joining the first 5 and last 5 along with various other friends and family along the way including Mia near the end.

At 5 weeks old Mia started developing breathing issues and over the following 2 weeks we were in and out of hospital being told it was various things including croup and a floppy airway, only for Mia to deteriorate even more

Mia spent 7 days on a ventilator in intensive care, during this time she was operated on and a subglottic haemangiomas (a birth mark) was discovered growing in her airway. Mia was immediately started on medication to help speed up the reduction of the growth. Spending 12 days in hospital Ronald McDonald house became a home away from home for us and we are forever grateful.

However in September, it was discovered Mia’s airway was significantly reduced as the rate of growth had been so rapid that Mia underwent further surgery to ‘debulk’ the haemangiomas spending a further 2 days in intensive care and 2 days in HDU

Mia continues to be regularly monitored at the Evelina and will stay on medication until around 18 months before being weaned off. She’s doing amazingly well and we are so proud of her.

The ENT team at the Evelina have been outstanding and have provided the best care possible for our girl. We will be forever grateful for their expertise and knowledge assisting us during this difficult time. The work they do is continuous and often at times goes unnoticed until needed.

We would like to raise this money to continue to help and support families and young children placed in their care at difficult and uncertain times for all. We would appreciate any donations small or large and should you wish to take part with Jon along his journey we would be grateful.

Thank you
