Story

The Challenge : We are going run a non-stop relay from the source of the Thames near Cirencester to the Thames Barrier in East London along the Thames Path. In total the path is around 280km long, but for safety reasons we will be running two people at night taking the grand total run by the team to c. 350km. That’s 50km each (or 34 miles in old money) and equivalent to 1.25x marathons. We will run the race as a series of 5 x 10km stages, running through the night with head torches and monitoring our progress with GPS trackers. We expect each runner to burn around 5,000 calories over their c. 5 hours of running, and we will be self-supported throughout, driving ourselves along the wiggly/indirect route east that is the River Thames. If you would like to come and cheer us on (please do!) we will be starting at 10am from the Source near Cirencester, passing through Oxford around 5.30pm on Friday evening, and then reaching Putney around 12pm on Saturday morning, before finishing (we hope!) around 3pm on Saturday afternoon at the Thames Barrier.

The Cause - https://www.demelza.org.uk/

For every parent, the health and happiness of their children
is the single most important thing in the world.  But the reality is any
child could be born with or develop a terminal condition.

Demelza provides specialist care and emotional support for children with terminal conditions and their loved ones, so they can enjoy time together as family, for as long as they have.  There is no formula, everybody’s journey is unique.  Demelza gives the families the choice and control over how their child is cared for, through support in their hospices, at home or in school.  Demelza is there to help children and their families cope with the fear, challenges and complexities of having a terminal condition - from diagnosisduring day to day family lifetimes of crisis and through bereavement.

But Demelza’s unique support structure comes at a price, and
at present they are only reaching 20 per cent of the children that they could help. As a charity, they are almost entirely dependent on people like us to provide the funds to keep their specialist services going. Demelza is Stenprop’s charity of the year during 2019, and the Company will be matching donations up to £7,000 raised, so please give generously and effectively twice as much.

We want to help those who may not live a long life, to live a full life and we thank you for your time and your generosity.
