The Stephen Lawrence Charitable Trust relies entirely on the generosity of members of the public and charitable trusts to make donations so we are able continue our work.  We need your help to develop our unique flagship programme called ‘Stephen Lawrence Building Futures’. 

 

We have a long history of supporting aspiring but disadvantaged young people by granting bursaries to help them to fund their University studies and become successful architects. We are proud to have supported 100 young people in this way and some even have their own thriving architecture practice.  We support young people into careers in architecture because this was Stephen’s ambition and yet 21 years after his death, isn't it extraordinary that only 6% of qualified architects are non-white and a mere 1% are Black?

 

The ‘Stephen Lawrence Building Futures’ programme builds upon extensive research and our history of offering bursaries and has the potential to transform the futures of talented young people by tackling the two additional key barriers they face:

(i)                  The lack of safe, affordable, high quality housing,

(ii)                The lack of networks / routes into work experience and employment.

 

We have partnered with The Hyelm Group to secure high quality affordable housing in Central London for our bursary recipients ensuring that, for those in housing need, we can offer them an affordable and safe place to live while they study.

 

We have also established a partnership with Peabody, one of London’s largest and long established housing providers to secure real work and work experience for each of our students once they complete their studies.

 

You can help us reach our target of £30,000 by 31^st December 2014 which will allow us to develop this programme further to continue to offer bursaries to students , create more work experience opportunities with some of London’s top architecture firms and expand on our accommodation offer. Through this programme we want to ensure that young people are given the opportunities to access what’s needed to kick start their careers, achieve their ambitions and transform their lives.
