Story
My dad Eddie suffered from dementia in the final seven years of his life. In those last few years, Dad found it increasingly hard to cope with his condition and caring for him was a struggle. The Alzheimer's Society were on hand to offer much-needed support and advice, so I am now undertaking a charity run to raise funds so that they can continue to help families like mine.
Being a runner, a football fan and a proud Yorkshireman, on July 1st I will attempt to combine all these things by running to all the Yorkshire football grounds belonging to teams in the top 4 divisions. Starting at Middlesbrough's Riverside Stadium, I will then run to football grounds in Harrogate, Leeds, Bradford, Huddersfield, Barnsley, Sheffield, Rotherham and Doncaster before finally ending my ultra run in Hull. My 'Top Tyke Terraces Trek' is 200 miles and I am aiming to complete it in one weekend.
As a teenager running for Wakefield Harriers, my Mum and Dad took me to many races in all these towns and cities. My family supported me back then just like I hope that you will support me now - together we can help other families in need. Despite supporting me all the way, my parents would call me a daft bugger for attempting such a massive challenge! For me, this is nothing near the challenge that I faced when trying to help care for Dad whilst juggling work, my own family and my own sanity. I'll just try to keep going forwards no matter how tough it gets, which is pretty similar to how it feels when caring for a loved one with Alzheimer's.
Please donate to help the Alzheimer's Society provide assistance to Yorkshire families living with this horrible disease - your money will make a great difference to the carers and their families.
