Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page. I am walking in memory of my wonderful husband Jim who died from MND in 2012. We received much appreciated support from the local branch of the MND Association throughout his illness.
Local people with MND turn to the Norfolk, Norwich & Waveney Branch for advice, support meetings, equipment, and importantly can apply for financial grants to help improve their quality of life.
Our supporters are wonderful, especially at this time of year many of them would be raising funds for us, often outdoors and in crowded places. Due to the coronavirus situation, this just can't happen in the same way. However, the demand for equipment and support grants is the same as always, and we are determined to support everyone who needs our help.
Around 70 people are typically living with this brutal disease in our branch area at any one time. MND is a fatal, rapidly progressing disease which affects the brain and spinal cord. It attacks the nerves that control movement and eventually leaves people unable to move, communicate or breathe. It kills a third of people within a year of diagnosis and half within two years. There is no cure.
Mission 5000: is a national effort to unite the whole MND community, including national office staff, branches and groups, and together we aim to cover 5000 miles. That represents a mile for every person living with motor neurone disease in the UK. I am walking 75 miles, one mile for every person in our branch area, plus a little!
