Alex was a student at Tameside College, he was an exceptional young man who was diagnosed some years ago with Meningitis. Alex, though confined to a wheelchair and with many problems went on to participate in and achieve so much including:
Volunteering in summer camps to help other disabled youngsters play sport, and over the years has continued to inspire others. He was a Junior Ambassador for Sport in Tameside Borough. He was Hyde Clarendon Sixth Form College NUS Disability officer. He volunteered his time assisting learners in 'Dovestones'. He used his Sports coaching skills to coach at Tameside dance club for the disabled. He played wheelchair Basketball for Oldham Owls and the North West. In 2011, he received BBC1's Teen Community Hero Award. In April 2012, he was nominated for the News of the World Children's Champion Awards held down in London and the National Sports award. In December 2011, he won the Pride of Tameside Young Volunteer of the Year Award. In 2012 he was also joint winner of the volunteer of the year for the Third Sector Excellence Awards for his work with the Meningitis Trust. He was an Ambassador for the Meningitis Trust Charity.
In addition my daughter contracted meningococcal septicaemia when she was five years old, the support provided was invaluable at a very difficult time
