Story

Hello Everyone!

I am taking part in the Great Birmingham Run this October in memory of my beloved Dad Gordon who lost his battle with the horrible Pancreatic Cancer. Dad was ill for months and the doctors were unable to diagnose Dad with the disease, it was only that I took Dad to A&E that 2 weeks later they had found out he had pancreatic cancer which had spread to his liver and therefore it was uncurable and totally untreatable. Dad deteriated more and mpore everyday and it was the hardest time I have ever and will ever experience.

Everyone who knew Dad would know what an amazing, kindhearted and happy person he was, always had a ready smile. That smile will be missed every single second of every day. Not a day will pass where Dad wont be on my mind. The memories will stay with me forever. This sudden and very sad loss is the reason why I, (a person who cant usually run 5 minutes without getting tired) is doing this half marothon as I really want to raise awareness for this great Charity that was only founded in 2004 and therefore has not had enough donations for research to help find a cure. This is the reason my amazing Dad died and the reason they could not catch it before it was too late.

Many types of cancers survival rates have drastically improved over the years, with pancreatic cancer being the only one that hasn't. Only 3% of those diagnosed with pancreatic cancer survive 5 years or more. This statistic has barely changed in 30 years. With approx 8,000 people being diagnosed with this cancer every year in the UK it is the 5th most common cause of cancer death and has the highest death rate of all cancers!

There is no early detection test and treatment is limited. Because symptoms are initially vague and generally don't appear until the disease is well advanced and too late. The average survival time after diagnosis is 6 months, my father didn't even reach 2 weeks :(

They need to find a cure and way to prevent people from dying due to such a horrible cancer. So please please sponsor me for this run and help try to save some lives as I would never wish anyone to go through the pain and suffering I have had to go through due to the loss of my Dad.

I would be very grateful to all donations recieved, my target amount is £150 as I need to raise this at least to be able to run, thank you to everyone who is donating much appreciate it xxx
