Story
Hello all,
This year I have been training for the Hackney Half Marathon on 19 May 2019!
Since May 2016, I have been working as a caseworker at Room to Heal and continue to feel inspired by the work. Room to Heal is a grassroots therapeutic community organisation supporting people who are survivors of torture, trafficking and organised violence.
At Room to Heal, survivors of torture can rebuild trust in their lives again despite having experienced the worst of human cruelty, and who continue to live with extreme deprivation in the UK.
Please help me raise money for this wonderful organisation and a community that continues to inspire me and means so much to me on a personal level.
Thank you all and wish me luck!
Love Suzie x

Room to Heal provides therapeutic and practical assistance to refugees and asylum seekers. Since 2007, we have developed a holistic assistance model shaped by the needs of those we have helped. We offer long-term support, tailored to each individual’s need and aspiration, standing by our members as they rebuild their lives and integrate in a meaningful way. Our approach focuses on human connection. We offer people a place of belonging, helping them withstand the many challenges they face.
Our community, based in Islington, is composed of people from 30 countries, of all ages and religions, united by a common belief in humanity and respect for human rights. We are a small, grassroots charity operating in a difficult funding environment and are seeking to raise more money for 2019.
Where the money you raise could go:
£1,450 would pay for all therapeutic and casework support for a torture survivor for a year, enabling a member to take great steps towards rebuilding their life in exile
£150 pays for a group therapy session for up to ten members to deal with the legacy of torture
£40 pays for a community meal after a group gardening session - so that our members can come out of isolation and find enjoyment in life again
£20 pays for an hour one-to-one casework appointment, to help someone avoid homelessness or find a lawyer
£5 pays for a member to travel to a therapy or casework session
