We raise funds for the NHS in Sheffield to improve the care of local neuro patients

Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

It’s been over 2 years since we lost our beautiful mum, who was always so full of life. She passed away so suddenly of a brain aneurysm on the 3rd January 2017;  the worst day of our life. Nothing could have eased the pain our family was going through.

The one and only positive experience I myself could bring out of the horror of the situation was the Neuro ITU nurses and specialist organ donation nurses who made it their job to ensure my mum and my family had the last best possible hours together.

I have previously worked on K Floor at the Royal Hallamshire in Sheffield, but never really acknowledged the amount of care, compassion and hard work given by these nurses to their patients. It's such a hard environment to work in. They see this everyday. I cannot even begin to comprehend how they do it. But they do and with such natural caring instincts which soothe even the worst outcomes.

They gave us the opportunity to stay with my mum in her final hours. We made prints of her hands, took locks of her hair and were given the opportunity to lie by her side. Due to the specialist nurses and nurses of Neuro ITU we were able to say our goodbyes and wait with her until her organ donation.

Both Neurocare and Organ Donation Awareness are charities which are now very close to my heart.

Sicne my mums funeral in January 19th 2017 we started collecting and fundraising for Neurocare.

In the past couple of years we have ran the Neurocare Headstart 10K with a team of family and friends, we have always made this event into a day to gather together, raise money and reminisce. The run has always been such a great way to remember my wonderful mum, who hated running but would always be at the finishing line cheering us on with a refreshing drink.

This year I myself am not available to run the Head Start 10K, but a number of family and friends will be ensuring Team Gail is represented.

But to ensure I still ‘do my bit’ I have arranged a Dodgeball Tournament with help from Graves Leisure Centre on Saturday June 8th 2019 to raise funds and have a great fun.

Friend, family and colleagues have been invited to participate in a friendly game of Dodgeball. We have also organised for a cake sale for all participants and spectators. Please help us make this tournament a success. Any donations towards this amazing charity will be accepted on the day or via this page.

We are now over £10,000 which was just uncomphrehenable when we opened the page. I have appreciated every single person who has been there for my family and helped us with our fundraising in the past couple of years. Words cannot even begin to cover how thankful I am.
