Story
We are the CAFOD team in the Southwark Diocese; Celeste, Marine & Sarah and we are taking part in CAFOD's Big Walk for Water on 20th February at 2pm to raise awareness and money for all those who do not have access to water.
We will be walking in solidarity with members of our global family like Abdella: Abdella is 23 and lives in Afar, Ethiopia one of the hottest places on earth. He spends 10 hours every day walking to collect water for his family to drink. He knows that if there was water near his home, his family wouldn't have to worry about getting enough to stay alive. And he could start on the dreams he has for the rest of his life.
Our Walks:
Marine and Celeste both live in central London are going to encourage each other along the way by walking together (socially distance and wearing masks) over the 7 bridges crossing the Thames from Westminster Bridge to Tower Bridge.
Marine says: “We have decided on this route because it is along the water and we thought crossing physical bridges is a beautiful symbol, just as we create bridges with people like Abdella who need to walk for 10 hours to reach a water point. We want to play our part in ending Water proverty”
Celeste says: "Walking on Saturday 20th February gives us the opportunity to consciously unite in solidarity with Abdella and many other people like him who walk to collect water every single day. We hope to inspire regular walkers or people like myself who aren't regular walkers to take up the opportunity to walk with Abdella."
Sarah lives in Kent and will be walking with her young family. She says "We are going to connect our walk with Marine and Celeste's and walk along the Thames as well , which is very close to us. Walking alongside the water will help to remind us at each step that we are walking with and for those who have no access to water - something that we so easily take for granted."
Please sponsor us if you can, or join for our virtual walk and if you can do so safely join in as well, visit www.cafod.org.uk/walk for more info.
If you can't join us by walking then please do pray for all those taking part and all those who do not have access to water.
