Story
I'll be walking the Starlight 15k Walk on Saturday 28th June along with Becky, Julia, Anna, Daniella and Cheryl (and a few more) to raise funds and awareness for The Prospect Hospice.
You probably already know but The Prospect Hospice looked after my Mum while she was poorly. She started visiting the Day Unit one day a week to start with - it gave her time to relax and be pampered by the visiting therapists and gave Dad a day to do his thing while they both had a day knowing that the other was okay.
As Mum's health deteriorated she spent a week in the hospice as she was too ill to be at home. The nurses, the doctors, the volunteers - they all rallied round to make sure Mum was as comfortable as she could be and made sure that we were supported in any way possible.
Mum then made a mini recovery and was well enough to come home. She lived for another ten days, ten precious days that we thought we would' t have. Unfortunately the hospice was full when the time came for her to "go back in" and then Prospect @Home came to the rescue. They supplied a bed, carers to help overnight, district nurses to visit for meds, everything.
Mum died on 28th October 2012 with myself, my brother Paul and our Dad by her side. No one else was in the house and she died peacefully and free of pain.
It'll be 20 months to the day when we walk the Starlight Walk. Please donate whatever you can, the hospice need £5.8million a year in voluntary donations to keep offering the same level of care, help and support to other families. Every £1, £5, £10 and £50 helps.
