TEAM DIM

Starting on 3rd July a team of three of us will be heading off to Penzance to start the Lands End to John O’Groats cycling challenge. This is around 900 miles of cycling which will be done over around 12 days. We are doing the trip without vehicle support, which means we are going to be carrying our own gear with us, so it’s likely to be a bit whiffy around us towards the end. If all goes well and we can stick to the schedule, the trip will also include the ascent of Scafell Pike and Ben Nevis (not on bikes). All three of us are members of Larkfield AC, so are all pretty good runners, but cycling ability varies.

We are looking to raise funds for the Anthony Nolan charity which looks to provide treatment for people with blood cancer.

We are looking to publish progress reports to enable our progress to be tracked.

The team members are:

Dave Dean, it was Dave who put forward the initial idea of doing this trip, something he has always wanted to do. Dave has previously cycled the length of France, so that experience should come in handy. Dave will also be the team mechanic, so we will be nice to him en route. The charity is one Dave has a strong connection with.

Ian Herrington, the oldest member of the team but also the most accomplished cyclist in the team, regularly putting in long cycle runs. Ian is the brains behind putting the route together and arranging all the overnight stops.

Mark Weber, the youngest but least experienced cyclist of the team. Hopes to finish the trip before his 50th birthday. Hasn’t had time to do all the training the other two have due to working full time, currently planning to sit on Dave’s wheel for 899 miles before heading for a sprint finish.
