We are Great Ormond Street Hospital Charity. We stop at nothing to help give seriously ill children childhoods that are fuller, funner and longer. Because we believe no childhood should be lost to illness.

Story

Great Ormond Street hospital is many things to us.

It is where our daughter, Sky, received treatment for brain cancer.

It was our home for a year. Where we unpacked our clothes, slept under our duvets, ate all our meals.

It was where we raised our newborn daughter Bo for her first 6 months of life.

It is where we played, laughed, cried, made friends and made memories.

When Sky was 16 months old she was devastatingly diagnosed with a brain tumour. When it turned out to be a very rare subtype we were sent to Great Ormond Street as one of the only hospitals to offer the particular treatment she needed. Over the next year we fought for her life, she had many brain operations and received intensive chemotherapy into her blood and also directly  into her brain. These gave her terrible side effects, some of which put her life at risk, including sepsis and meningitis. We felt helpless and we had to put our daughters life into the hands of Great Ormond Street staff. They got her into remission she is now a whole year out of treatment. She has scans every four months to check that she remains cancer free.

Their pioneering research and skilled staff made her better. But they also treasured her. They played with her, they made her feel safe, they made her life fun. So much so that she loves going back for her many follow up appointments. This means so much to us that her memories are happy.

They do all this for countless children and their families every day.

Now we would do absolutely anything for Great Ormond Street and the other sick children that desperately need their help…and Benedict is starting by running 26.2 miles.

Scroll through photos at the top for snapshots into our life at GOSH and we will share little stories of our time there on this page with updates of Benedict’s training.
