Story
In August 2018, our beloved grandfather, dad and husband was diagnosed with stage 4 oesophageal cancer. Sadly, on the 18th January 2019, he passed away after a tough 5 months of battling this cancer with such grace and strength and with his constant beautiful smile. As a family, we have chosen this charity as we are determined to raise awareness of the importance of oesophageal cancer, as it is the most common cause of cancer death in the UK. Early diagnosis makes a crucial difference to outcomes and can give others a fighting chance to survive this disease. An estimated 950 UK lives could be saved each year, if the rate of early diagnosis and outcomes matched the best in Europe. Nationally, around a fifth of cases are only diagnosed in patients admitted to hospital as an emergency, and most of the time, it is then too late for curative treatment. Early diagnosis by endoscopy is particularly important, as it has been shown to significantly improve outcomes, compared to late stage cancers. In honour of him and his beautiful smile, we kindly ask for you to donate to our cause and potentially save many lives.
With Love,
