Story
We lost our amazing Dad, Bob Challis in March 2017. He had been having treatment for Lymphoma which is a form of blood cancer. He unfortunately caught an infection at the end of his treatment which caused him to get Pneumonia and he sadly passed away in March last year. We were told that Dad's cancer treatment was successful and had he not contracted the infection he would still be here today.
Dad was the most kind and caring man who was incredibly popular and well known around Newbury. He had a fantastic sense of humour and was always the life and soul of the party. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, son, brother, uncle and father-in-law and is so incredibly missed by us all.
Dad was a keen fisherman and his intention when he recovered was always to hold an annual charity fishing competition to raise money for Bloodwise which was a charity very close to his heart.
Bloodwise help fund research into blood cancer and thanks to them and other charities, two thirds of all patients diagnosed with blood cancer will still be with us in 5 years time.
Our family are now following his wishes and we are holding an annual charity fishing event in memory of him.
The first Bobby Challis Rod Race 2017 which was held on 22nd July 2017 and was a fantastic event! We were completely blown away by the support and we raised just over £2100 for Bloodwise.
We are hoping this year’s Annual Bobby Challis Rod Race which will be held on Saturday 28th July 2018 will be even more successful than last years event and we want to raise even more money and awareness for this amazing charity! Any donations and support will be greatly appreciated by us all.
