We breed and train guide dogs to give blind people freedom and mobility

Story

I am Theresa, known by most as Tee.  I am registered blind and having been working with my gorgeous guide dog Vicky since November 2009.

With Vicky by my side I have been able to face many new challanges, the first of these happened during our initial training period when I discovered that I was pregnant.  She gave me the independance that I needed, having had several jabs with my cane I am sure that I would have been house bound in fear of harming my baby.  My baby who is now a chattering 3 year old, with him and his sister who is 7, just like any other mum I have my hands full.  But with Vicky by my side I have an extra confidence to face the daily challanges of any parent.

Thankfully she is a very patient pooch, who many friends have renamed as 'licky' Vicky as she is always happy to great you with a kiss!

The thing is....... As a guide dog user, I said that I could only possibly do such a thing like the Great South Run with a guide dog by my side.  For obvious reasons I can't and wouldn't run with Vicky, so I have the next best thing.  I have a guide runner, known as Top Dog.

Top Dog will be guiding me around the course dressed as a giant guide dog puppy.  (Lets hope October is on the cooler side)

Without guide dogs I don't feel that I would have half of the freedom that I do, thanks to them I have Vicky and they continually support us both.  Due to my deteriating sight I am now studying for a new career, but guide dogs support me by supplying all of Vicky's food, covering all of her vet bills, even down to supplying us with what must now be into the double figures of large bells for her collars so that I can hear where she is around the house or out on a free run, and as her favourite adventure when she is on down time, enjoying a free run is the woodland and shrubbery, we have lost a fare few!!

This is my way of giving back to them, please PLEASE please support me.

The ability to get around is vital in order to live a full life yet thousands of people with sight loss never leave home alone. We empower visually impaired people to do that and rely on the support of the public to fund the guide dog service.
