In memory of Leonardo Fryer
We Support families & medical research to reduce the risks of NEC

Story

Think Insurance together with Leonardo’s family will be taking on The Wolf Run on the 2nd of June in Leicestershire to raise awareness of NEC (Necrotizing Enterocolitis) as this condition if caught early can save premature babies lives with a treatment of antibiotics.

Please read below the reason as to why we have chosen to do the above.

Leonardo Jeffrey Fryer was born on 24/11/2018 at 27 weeks 3 days geststion along with his twin brother Theodore.

At 1 week and 5 days old Leonardo fell seriously ill with a disease called NEC (Necrotizing Enterocolitis) which is a life-threatening bowel condition mainly affecting premature babies

On Thursday 6th December Leonardo was transfered from New Cross Hospital to Birmingham Womens & Childrens Hospital where he needed life saving surgery.

Leonardo went on to have 2 surgeries, 1st to remove the dead bowel and the 2nd to rejoin the bowel that was left to heal. On Monday 10th December Leonardo’s surgery did not go to plan and the surgeons could not do anything to save his life as the bowel remaning from the 1st surgery had completley died.

Leonardo Jeffrey Fryer sadly fell to sleep 11/12/2018 peacefully in his parents arms as together they decided to turn his life support machine off.

In memory of Leonardo’s death we would like to raise as much money towards investigating and researching as to why premature babies develop this disease and ways to prevent NEC.

About the charity
