Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

This is my eleventh fundraising campaign (we've raised over £46,000 together MA) and it's just as important as ever for me to ensure the money I ask you to donate is fully spent on those in need. As always I've thought about which charity I should support this year and after more research and discussion I have decided to work with Hand In Hand For Aid Development again.

A HUGE thanks to everyone who donated and helped me raise £11,000 to renovate damaged schools in Syria last year. In total we managed to fully repair and renovate FIVE schools.
THANK YOU!

This year, in 2022, I would like to help
TWENTY children who are severely malnourished in Syria, who need urgent care and nourishment.

Eleven years of conflict in Syria, displacement, high food prices and the devaluation of the Syrian pound have all affected the lives and nutritional status of the most vulnerable, especially children who are the most severely affected.

The team at Hand In Hand For Aid Development see little children in north Syria so malnourished they don't even have the energy to cry : ( These children are suffering from severe acute malnourishment; they face mortality, risks leading to wasting, physical and cognitive development issues, delayed physical growth leading to irreversible stunting causing limitations on educational achievement and employment opportunities in later life.

Today, more parents than ever before in Syria are struggling to feed their children. The price of basic food items is now 29 times higher than pre-crisis averages. The World Food Programme estimates that 12.4 million Syrians are now food insecure. This is an increase of 4.5 million in the last year alone and the highest number ever recorded.

Main Goal and Objectives:

Help children to get the best possible start in life and support to fight and prevent malnutrition.

Hand In Hand For Aid Development will address malnutrition in children in Kalbeet camp, north of Idlib, who do not have access to food, clothing and medicine. They’ll give them a treatment plan supervised by a nutritionist. The treatment plan includes medical analysis, basic supplies, nutritional rations and a weekly follow-up over a period of 4 months, hoping at the end of this treatment, children will have recovered and have become stronger.

The charity will also provide a recreational activity once a week during the project period for all children with malnutrition and 200 patients visiting the paediatric clinic.

20 children with acute malnutrition will be chosen using the following criteria:

- Age: children under five
- MUAC (measure the upper arm circumference of children, helping identify malnutrition) and
Score (Assessment of nutritional state and height-weight and psychomotor development)
- Economic situation
- Priority for children who face abuse

For each child we need to raise:

- $ 150 for medical lab tests and essential supplies.
- $ 39.18 for weekly nutrition ration (to diversify their diets, improve vitamin and mineral intake, and meet their nutritional needs) for a four month treatment period, including the child's family.
Total per family = $791

Each child with acute malnutrition and their family needs £650 each.

HIHFAD has already succeeded in implementing a similar intervention that tackles the causes of malnutrition for 10 malnutrition children. Please see this video:

Here are the facts about the charity:

1. They are a charity that works from within Syria and employs approximately 550 Syrians who know the region and their people to provide direct and effective support.

"Their teams inside Syria assess, plan, prioritise and implement projects to help the most vulnerable in the community based solely on need. The majority of their staff, trustees and consultants are Syrian. These large, local teams live inside Syria and understand the needs and complex, ever-changing contexts in which they work."

2. They have a 100% donations policy and I have been assured that any admin fee is covered by the volunteers themselves and the Gift Aid they reclaim on donations.

3. The work they do is incredible. From emergency relief, medical aid, building hospitals, setting up schools to community empowerment - they take a holistic view in caring for Syrians.

See articles they've been mentioned in: https://www.theguardian.com/global-development/2015/mar/12/syria-crisis-how-you-can-help-donate-aid

Syria has been reduced to rubble and millions of people’s lives have been destroyed. It is our duty to make sure that no one is left without food, clean water or shelter. These children's lives were torn apart through no fault of their own. They’ve seen their loved ones killed and have had to leave their beautiful homes with nothing but the clothes on their back. Please join me in making a small difference to these beautiful children's lives and hopefully improving their future.
All my best wishes are with you and I thank you from the bottom of my heart for joining me in supporting a great cause once again.

Much love, peace and blessings to you all,
A. M. Dassu
