Story
Back in early 2022 my Mum (who is in her 50’s) went for a random mammogram test after receiving an NHS letter in the post.
A month or so later and after more tests, we received the horrifying news that my Mum has Breast cancer. It had also spread to the very immediate lymph nodes.
Let me tell you, i’ve never been so scared in my life- i dread to think how my Mum was going to cope. That’s where the Macmillan nurses really came into their own. Their care, knowledge and drive helped my Mum through the initial diagnosis and early stages way beyond anything i could do.
A few months pass and following a couple of operations, my mum then has to go through a stage of radiation therapy. Again, the Macmillan nurses are there every step of the way offering guidance, support and the strength needed to try and get through the upcoming months.
Fast forward to 2023, my Mum is now currently in remission. We are hopeful that they have slowed the spread and eradicated the cancer itself. Something we find out around March time.
Knowing my Mum, she would hate me writing all this for her. But, i feel the Macmillan nurses need to be given as much praise as humanly possible. Not just that, they need the support to help as many people suffering with cancer as possible. Their work has been absolutely amazing and i really hope they help as many people and families suffering with cancer for many, many years to come.
Running a half marathon(walking most of it to be fair) is the absolute least i can do for such an amazing organisation.
Thanks for supporting my fundraising. Macmillan gives people with cancer everything they’ve got. If you’re diagnosed, your worries are Macmillan’s worries. Macmillan’s doing whatever it takes. But without your help, Macmillan can’t support everyone who needs them.
