Marie Curie Hospice, West Midlands provides expert care, guidance and support to people living with a terminal illness and their families.

Story

Matt was diagnosed with terminal Bowel Cancer in October 2017, news which turned our lives upside down.  Over the next 2 years Matt showed us all how determined he was to put up the best fight ever and never let anything stand in his way.  He was an inspiration to his family and to everyone he met.

Unfortunately in April 2019 we were told that Matts treatment was no longer working and that he only had 4-6 months to live.  We were at this point released into the care of the Marie Curie hospice in Solihull.

This meant that over the coming months he had a number of visits to the hospice .  The level of care he received was outstanding. His family couldn’t have got through the last few months  without their dedication and continued support..

When Matt was admitted for the final time to the hospice they gave Matt the most amazing level of care , upmost respect and the most dignified and peaceful passing that we could have wished for.  Thanks to the most wonderful doctors, nurses and other staff members we were able to stay by Matts side throughout his stay until he passed away peacefully with his family by his side.

Matts wishes were that we  raised as much as we could to help keep the wonderful work of the  Solihull Marie Curie hospice running knowing that other families could benefit from the level of support and care our family received.

Myself, Matt, Holly, Mads and Sophie will be forever grateful for what they did for us.

Below gives an explanation to why funding is so desperately needed and outlines the amazing work they do, not just for the patients but for their families as well.

Our Solihull Hospice has been caring for local people since 1965.Its a warm and welcoming place where we give expert care to people with a terminal illness, and their loved ones, every day of the year. Our hospice team includes doctors, nurses, physiotherapists, social workers and many more, and is supported by over 200 volunteers who play a vital role in the running of the hospice. We have a 24-bed in-patient unit, where relatives and friends can visit any time of the day or night, and stay with their loved ones if they wish. Our out-patient unit offers clinics, therapies and group sessions and freshly cooked lunches made by our chefs. We also support carers and families, including children, with practical advice, counselling and bereavement support groups. We need to raise £9,600 per day to run the hospice, so every penny counts. Thank you for helping to make sure more people with a terminal illness in Solihull get the care and support they need.
