We are raising vital funds to help support baby loss families.

Story

This fundraising page has been set up by Charlotte and Pete, parents to baby George Arthur Townsend, who was born in the George Eliot Hospital, Nuneaton, on November 12, 2021, alongside his beautiful twin sister Emilie May Townsend. The twins were born very prematurely and were immediately transferred to the Neonatal unit at University Hospitals Coventry & Warwickshire (UHCW) in Coventry, where Emilie continues her journey.

George sadly passed away on December 3rd, as he turned 3 weeks old. He is much loved and will always be remembered by us as being a true fighter. We miss him every day, but he lives on in his precious little sister, who is helping us to stay strong during this time.

The Neonatal unit at Coventry have been utterly incredible, and both and Pete and I don't feel that we would ever be able to find the words to thank them for their support since our babies went into their care.

We would love to hopefully raise enough money to donate a cold cot in memory of our beautiful son George to help and give bereaved families the chance to say their goodbyes. To help a charity that helped us in our darkest time that no parents should ever have to face.

The Challenge

Our great friend, Anthony, who is the official mascot "Abigail Bear" for the charity Abigail's Footsteps, will be undertaking  a Half Ironman challenge all on April 15 2022.

Why Half Ironman? Anthony will be wearing the Abigail Bear mascot costume, so officially half man half bear! The challenge, totalling 113km (70.3 miles) is:

Swim (replaced by a row due to costume restrictions) - 1.9km

Ride - 90km

Run - 21.1km (Half Marathon)

Abigail's Footsteps was launched in 2010 by parents Jo and David Ward following the death of their daughter Abigail who was stillborn at 41 weeks gestation. Abigail's Footsteps aims to relieve the suffering of parents and their families who suffer bereavement through the death of a baby before or at birth, and to advance the knowledge and expertise of healthcare professionals and others in supporting and dealing with the effects of such a death on the bereaved.

Abigail's Footsteps work closely with The Bond Group to produce the Abi Cooling Cot, a specially designed and affordable cooling cot that contains a refrigerated system that allows parents to spend more time with their baby than would otherwise be possible.
