Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
Both my brother, Carl and I have signed up to swim the length of Lake Windermere in September. That's 10.5 miles, in water around 15C (cold, very cold!) without a wetsuite. We hope to complete the swim in under 6 hours.
You may know, my nephew Alex (Carl and Johanne's son) was badly starved of oxygen at birth and is, as a result, very severly disabled, requiring total care 24/7. Alex gets 2 weeks a year at the hospice, providing respite for Carl and Johanne. The hospice provide top notch care and provide hydrotherapy, sensory rooms and basically pamper Alex for his whole stay.
Everything we raise will go towards funding a new sensory area in the main living area of the Hospice, costing around £5k. Hopefully between myself and my brother we'll get there!

Training Blog
10/04/09 Both training 3/4 times a week doing 1 mile straight off in pool training. Both didn't realise how unfit we'd got over the last few years!
01/05/09 Starting to swim 5/6 mornings a week , minimum of a mile each swim. Carl only taking cold showers in the morning - will not take a hot one until completing the event, (insane!!!)
14/05/09 As well as 1 mile every morning Adam started training in local lake, 3 miles a swim. Can't see anything, really dark and murky. Not a pleasant experience at all!!
01/06/09 Adam started taking cold baths and added an additional swim of 3 or 4 miles once week in peterborough Lido (open aired, unheated, 50m pool)
07/06/09 Carls 3rd sea swim, Sunderland. 10 degrees! Lasted 20 minutes before manhood disappeared.
14/06/09 Wykeham 5km lake swim, Scarborough. Both finished well in 5th (Adam) and 7th place (Carl) in field of around 40 swimmers, both in 1 hr 20 mins, give or take a few minutes. Encouraging but will not go at this pace for the main event.
18/07/09 Windermere 6 mile training swim with support crews (including my dad and Johanne's dad). Support crew meant to be looking after the swimmers - Adam had to rescue his crew by dislodging them from the rocks they got themselves stuck on!! A great day that has filled both of us with confidence for the main event. Carl finished the swim ahead of Adam - will not happen again!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
