Halfway to reaching my goal!
Thank you for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
On 11th – 14th September 2012 a tandem parachute jump event called Fall for the Fallen will take place at the Army Parachute Association (APA) in Netheravon, Wiltshire. The event will involve one tandem skydive taking place to represent the death of every soldier who has lost his/her life while on operation in Afghanistan. To date that number, sadly, stands at 417. Funds raised will go to Armed Forces Charities including BLESMA. I am going to take part in this event on Friday 14 September 2012, in honour of the soldiers who never made it home and to help organisations like BLESMA. You will be aware that my younger brother is an amputee; however, he has not let this injury hold him back. BLESMA have given him fantastic support and he is involved with the BLESMA Trans4mers Parachute Team. I am hopeful that he will be jumping out of the perfectly good plane with me on the day!
BLESMA (British Limbless Ex Service Men's Association) is the national charity for limbless serving and ex service men and women and their dependants and widows. It is the charity that directly supports all our service men and women who lose limbs, the use of limbs or eyes or the sight of an eye in the service of our country and are with them all whenever they are needed for the rest of their lives. Their work starts with rehabilitation - proving that there is life after amputation. Their work is about amputee helping amputee - the fellowship of shared experience. Their work is about life long welfare support, about campaigning for what each amputee deserves and about being there when old injuries come back to haunt. Their youngest member is 19 and our oldest is 99 - Truly they are BLESMA for Life.
