Story

After last years challenge of cycling 1049km round Wales for Kinder Mountain Rescue and the amazing support i received, i have decided to up the stakes this year and complete a 1250km audax from Lytham St Annes up to Inverness and back. But i'll also be riding to the start, an extra 100km from Disley where i live.

I have been looking for a challenge this year to really test me, and this is when I decided an unsupported 1350km bike packing trip to Invernes and back, with over 11,000m of climbing was just the job.

I have decided to do it for charity to help spur me on when the going really gets tough, hopefully anything which you donate will be matched in equal part by the WSP charity foundation upto £250.

I will be doing this as a group audax ride, but fully unsupported with only my bike and tent in accordance with Audax UK (long distance cycling club) rules. This basically gives me 90hours complete the ride or a miserably fail to get my certificate! Im hoping for around 80 hours!

Everyone who knows me, knows that I enjoy the odd long ride here and there, but this is a different league to what im comfortable with, not only with the distance, but with the  huge elevation gain and the mere fact that its unsupported and will have to carry everything I need including tent, sleeping bag, mat, food, clothes and other essentials.

The charity that im supporting is Kinder Mountain Rescue, and while I am fortunate enough to not have needed their services, many people have, or have used one of the other rescue teams locally.

The Kinder Mountain Rescue team play a hugely important role in the peaks, fighting fires and looking after people who become unstuck. This may be a climber a walker a mountain biker whoever really.

The recent fires last year they have been involved with have drained many resources, which are in urgent need of replenishment and this is where I intend to help. They also have a new plan to upgrade the telecommunications radios on Kinder, as there are many black spots which will be eliminated with the new system...but this costs ~50k.

Please join me in celebrating what they do and give them all the support you can!
