Walking to remember Luna
This year on Sunday 13th September, I will be marking the National Pet Memorial Day by taking one of Luna’s favourite walks in the beautiful Chilterns where she grew up and lived a happy and full life for 12 years. True to her spaniel, gundog roots, she loved nothing better than to run far and wide, flushing the birds, barking excitedly and was always on the lookout for a nice bog, stream, river or puddle to swim in or just to enjoy a nice, satisfying belly soak. She sneakily stole my heart when she was 4 months old when I least expected it and she still must have it because although she’s been gone for 4 years, I still think about her, miss her and smile at the memory of her every single day. All pets are special in their own unique way, and anyone who has one knows the joy they bring to our lives and what they can teach us about loyalty, unconditional love and unbreakable bond between two living beings. In between chasing swallows, collecting grass seeds, hiding slippers, waging a war against squirrels, patiently posing for photos and ALWAYS assisting in the kitchen, she also gave endless emotional support to her humans whenever they were poorly, sad or just needed a quiet and understanding companion.
I will be joined on the walk by Haydn, who raised Luna with me and who will also be remembering the special bond they shared. We hope that our friends, both human and K9 will join us to celebrate the memory of Luna and other special doggies who are waiting for us over the rainbow bridge. Most of all we want to support the RSPCA, who came up with this wonderful idea, and many dogs who are still with us and need our help.
Thank you for your support
