Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit Alex and my JustGiving page.

As many of you know The Emily Jordan Foundation was founded in 2008, after our daughter, Em was killed in New Zealand. Although things have been very difficult for her friends and family, it has been great to see so many people becoming involved in trying to get something very positive from this tragedy. It has been wonderful to be part of this enthusiasm and support from many people!

The Emily Jordan Foundation is involved in helping young adults with moderate learning disabilties learn new skills to eventually enable them to either enter the workplace, or otherwise just be able to contribute to society. This is something they really want to do - like everyone else!

The Aim of the Foundation says it all: To help individuals with moderate learning or physical disabilities lead fulfilled lives.

The Big Bike Ride - The Sequel! After cycling from Lands End to JOG in 2009 to raise money for The Emily Jordan Foundation, this year Alex, Emily's brother, and I are preparing for a new challenge! In April we are going to cycle from Barcelona to Kidderminster, a distance of about 1100 miles.

The monies raised in 2009 helped buy a unit, where today 40 young people with moderate learning disabilities learn new skills  to help them to enter the workplace. This is currently done utilising bikes donated by the public that the young people repair, rebuild, photograph and sell from the website or to people coming into the unit. They are fully involved in the business!
The Foundation also operates, in conjunction with Kidderminster College, 'The Route to Work Diploma', which focusses on Employability skills.

This year's money will be used to start new projects, including wood manufacturing, gardening and IT skills that are close to commencing.

Would you like to sponsor Alex? He would be very grateful! Big or small - it all helps!
