Story
Hi guys,
In October of 2008 my 7 y.o cousin died unexpectedly. She had SMA.
From this I decided I wanted to pursue a career in science because I felt this disease needed to be better understood. SMA UK does not have massive research centres dedicated to it, it doesn't have extremely lucrative PhD's and job roles. It has hard working people trying to help families affected by this disease.
So, 10 years on...
For Lent this year I will be giving up sweet food, this includes cake, chocolate, sweets, biscuits, milkshakes and anything else which would be classed as dessert food. Anyone who knows me will know that this will be a MASSIVE challenge. I have barely managed a week before, let alone 40 days! I'm doing this part of the challenge as I realised how much I take it for granted that I can just run down the stairs at work and nip to the shop for cake whenever the craving hits me. Lots of people cannot, for many reasons.
The second part of my challenge is to take part in an obstacle colour rush - not going to lie, this will be fun running more than endurance running, but I am not a runner. Really I'm doing this part just to allow myself to enjoy life and stop looking to the future all the time. Katie always liked pink and colour and I feel that if she could she would have loved to participate in one of these events.
So I'm running because she cannot.
