Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

When I gave up as County Commissioner I promised myself I would get fitter. What better way than to emulate the fantastic challenge leaders from Surrey West achieved by really swimming the channel.

However I am doing it the soft way by swimming the distance of the channel (22 miles) in a pool over the period of 12 weeks. However that still means swimming nearly 2 miles a week. Quite a challenge for me - someone who had to take swimming lessons some years ago as she could not swim!

Paxmead Riverside Base, on the Thames near Chertsey, is a boating Centre for Guiding and Scouting Groups specialising in paddle sports .... except we have a problem ..... the loos and showers. We have just 2 loos, 2 showers and no facilities for people with disabilities. We are aiming to refurbish our current facilities in the Residential Centre, to provide 2 wetrooms/loos for people with disabilities in addition to the loos and showers we need for people staying in the Centre. Then we would like to have a purpose built changing facility for our boaters. This would more than double our capacity, giving local girls and boys even more opportunity to get out there in their kayaks, on the paddle boards etc. It will cost £300,000 and we have raised over £70,000 from site profits, private donations and so on but we need at least £25,000 more before the end of 2018 to complete the Centre works by March next year. Please help us.
