Team Best in Snow - Alia, Alison, Jane, and Sévi - are going all out to raise funds for the National Literacy Trust by embarking on a 4-day test of strength, determination, willpower, and thermal underwear in the Arctic Circle.

In February 2020, we will test our resilience and survival skills in one of the harshest environments on the planet – all in the name of literacy!

We are taking part in the National Literacy Trust’s incredible Arctic Challenge – a series of mental and physical challenges to raise vital funds to change the lives of disadvantaged children in the UK. 

25% of children leave primary school unable to read properly. This number rises to 40% in disadvantaged communities. These low levels of literacy affect our country; if every child left school with adequate reading skills, the UK economy would be £30 billion better off. But more than that, we just want every child to have the same advantages in life. Every kid should be able to find solace in the world of books and let their imagination run wild.

Competing against other teams, we will learn skills including dog sledding, Nordic skiing, ice fishing, and orienteering. And with temperatures reaching as low as -30 degrees centigrade and sunlight only lasting a few hours, we are going to be pushed to our limits! But it’s all worth it for the cause at hand.

The biggest hurdle of all though is fundraising. Please support us as we take on this challenge. Every penny will help disadvantaged children in the UK who have little access to books or are struggling with literacy.
