BERGHOLT WARD:Alyssa's Fight against Spinal Muscular Atrophy...Type 1
Kristina and Kirsha have decided to take part in a charity skydive to raise money for Bergholt Ward at Ipswich Hospital.
Our best friends daughter Alyssa who is now 6 months old was diagnosed with Spinal Muscular Atrophy Type 1 at just just 10 weeks old! One of things we want to do is raise awareness on this life limiting terminal illness. Spinal Muscular Atrophy affects the muscles, eventually resulting in the loss of any physical strength. It affects the nerve cells situated within the Spinal cord, which affects the ability to walk eat and breathe. The are four types of SMA with type 1 being the worst form.
Alyssa is still here with us today currently battling this illness and continues to show her determination and strength. Since being diagnosed Alyssa unfortunately has had to spend a considerable amount of time in hospital on Bergholt Ward.
The staff on this ward do an amazing job and have cared for Alyssa to the highest standards! Consultants, nurses, healthcare assistants, the lot... not only have they cared for Alyssa they have taken care of the people that surround Alyssa... her parents, her family and friends. We all love Alyssa so so much and she continues to fight day in, day out and even with a beautiful smile that literally just lights up the room!
We want to be able to give something back to Bergholt Ward for their professionalism, time and care that they continue to provide for not only Alyssa but for others too! Any donations would be greatly appreciated, nothing is too small.
