Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

As most of you know I lost my husband to cancer in 2014. Mike and I, both of us teachers at Stowe School in Buckinghamshire fell in love with CrossFit from the moment we discovered it in 2011, and Unit 22 in Northampton became our second home. Mike started feeling tired in 2012, but we put it down to his demanding job, so he reduced his hours at school a bit. He was eventually diagnosed in July 2014 just a week after we finished the school term. In fact he continued training until just a couple of weeks before he got his death sentence and he never got to say goodbye to his work colleagues because by the time school resumed in September he was very poorly... I kept going throughout because the community at CFN supported me through Mike's illness and to be honest I don't know what I would have done without them and my CrossFit fix following his death.  Colleagues from school and friends from Unit 22 joined together to help me fundraise, we competedCycle for Cynthia  just 2 weeks before he died, and Unit 22 put together a 24 hour fundraiser, called WOD for Mike, performed the week before his passing. Mike picked the content of this (it was vile) and the music...we raised over £6000. Cancer  is a bastard, it can steal your future, we need to continue doing everything we can to stop it and to continue fundraising to help those who are affected by it.

Mike wanted to leave me in a position to make CrossFit my life, even though we knew it wouldn't be a future we were both going to share. I'm doing my best Mike...

Because of CrossFit I have met lots of amazing people both in the UK and around the world... through competing, which I love, visiting boxes as I travel, and of course good old social media. I was thrilled to be asked to join a Masters team for the Battle Cancer competition, through contacts I made at one of my favourite events, Raising the Bar. Menna, Guy, Alistair and I (all of us vintage athletes) fully intend kicking ass on August 5th and showing the youngsters what we're made of. I know that Mike would have loved to watch this event and I'm doing this for him..and hoping that the money I raise might help in a tiny way to prevent what happened to him happening to someone else
