The ability to get around is vital in order to live a full life yet thousands of people with sight loss never leave home alone. We empower visually impaired people to do that and rely on the support of the public to fund the guide dog service.

Story

My goal during my year as Lady Captain at Ross-on-Wye Golf Club is to raise £5000 as this is the magic figure which will allow us to name a guide dog puppy.  I hope that in the years to come someone will be getting help and companionship from a dog called Ross!

We have held various fundraising efforts at the club, coffee mornings, cake and plant stalls and raffles.   We have even had a fund raiser to name the dog and by popular demand the name will be 'Ross'.  We are planning more events for the Autumn including a woodland walk and a fun quiz evening.

I didn't think we would get to £5000 without a major fundraising event and so it seemed that I should take up a challenge.  My challenge is to play 100 holes of golf in a day.  I have persuaded three friends, Kerry, Sarah and Helen to join in the challenge and we are all training like mad.  Sarah is in charge of logistics and the latest is that we will start at 3.30am and probably finish at about 10pm.  This will allow for 5 rounds each played in 3 and a half hours and the final ten holes in heaven knows how long but probably using head-torches!  I just hope our loo stops don't upset the timings.

Husband, John, is also doing a challenge but his particular one involves the bicycle.  He has got a team of eight keen cyclists and their challenge is to cycle from Ross Golf Club to all the major golf clubs in Herefordshire and back in a day.  This is a round trip of about 85 miles and has lots and lots of hills!

Both challenges will take place over the weekend of 23/24th June so keep your fingers crossed that we get dry weather and please, please support us, dig deep and donate now!
