Story
26.2 miles is a ridiculous amount to be running. This is where I was 10 years ago when I signed up to do the Asics Windermere Marathon 2012. "It's a tough one for your first", "Are you MAD?", and of course the classic "Ooooh what about your knees" became things I'd hear often.
Entering that race was life-changing because it brought me closer to my club-mates. It taught me more about myself than I'd ever have known and it showed me that I was tougher than I thought.
This reminds me of the work Brathay does. By inspiring disadvantaged young people through creative and outdoor activities, they create self-awareness and encourage positive change.
During the pandemic, young people have had a particularly hard time and those from difficult backgrounds have struggled hugely with mental health and lack of social activities.
Now, more than ever Brathay can use their resources to help and support them. So I'm doing my bit by returning to the scene of my first marathon and running the course 10 times in 10 days! Argh!
