Story

This May I'm doing 50 squats every day to raise money for GOSH Charity. Every day, more than 600 seriously ill children and young people from across the UK arrive at Great Ormond Street Hospital (GOSH). Doctors and nurses battle the most complex illnesses and conditions, and the brightest minds come together to achieve pioneering medical breakthroughs as I have personally experienced.

When I was 6 years old I was diagnosed with a rare condition called Cholesteatoma which damaged almost all of my hearing bones. As well as losing my hearing, it could also have led to more serious consequences if not for the amazing ENT team at GOSH that took immediate action. Led by my phenomenal surgeon, they completely reconstructed my ears with titanium hearing bones across 6 majorly complex surgeries that were over 5 hours long each time. It was the most difficult experience I’ve had to go through but I knew I was receiving the best possible care and attention.. The doctors and nurses were so kind and gentle and the play specialists that kept me entertained for hours while waiting for surgery and until I’m ready to go home made me feel so comfortable. While my journey there continues as they work towards completely restoring my hearing I want to start giving back to this wonderful community that has helped me lead as normal a life as possible despite my impairment.

My sister Neave is proud to join me on this challenge as we attempt to raise awareness and funds for the Great Ormond Street Sight and Sound Center who have helped thousands of children like me. I hope my story will inspire you to make a very small contribution towards this extraordinary hospital that has always depended on charitable support to give seriously ill children the best chance to fulfill their potential.
