Bupa Great South Run 2013 · 27 October 2013 ·

The MPS Society provides specialist support to children, adults and families in the UK who are affected by MPS, Fabry and related lysosomal storage diseases and we fund research into treatment and therapies. These diseases are rare, genetic, life-limiting conditions with no cure.

Story

Back in early 2012, close friends received devastating news that their 13 month old daughter had a rare genetic disorder called MPS 1, Hurler Syndrome which without a bone marrow transplant meant she would surely die.

MPS 1 is so rare that it occurs in 1 in 100,000 newborns. Why should they be so unlucky?

Anabelle had the bone marrow transplant and endured months of medical treatment,  seeing this and her parents go through it , was heartbreaking, especially having a young daughter myself.

Anabelle however still managed to brighten up a room with her smile  and her parents strength and courage was admirable throughout it all.

Sadly though, on Christmas day 2012, when they believed they were over the worst, Anabelle aged just 22 months died at Southampton General Hospital from an infection which only showed symptoms a couple of days prior.

Please help me raise money for this charity so research can be done to find a cure and hopefully prevent any other familes going through this.
