The National Animal Welfare Trust cares for and rehomes over 1300 animals a year, from cats and dogs to smalls and sheep! Active in all the communities it serves, the Trust has 5 rescue centres in the south of the UK, supported entirely by the generosity of the animal-loving public.

Story

Our great colleague and friend sadly died on the 6th October, 14 months after a cancer diagnosis in August 2020.

Andrew stood out because he blended incredible knowledge and clinical ability with a relaxed, generous and caring nature. He quietly built the successful Rata Vet Surgery with an emphasis on the provision of affordable orthopaedic care at the highest quality directly to pets, for pet owners, in their own familiar veterinary practices.

Andrew would often treat patients just at the cost of the implants because that was just part of who he was.  Being a pet owner of various waifs and strays himself, Andrew understood the challenges facing pet owners when their pets needed treatment they could not afford.

A true Kiwi Andrew loved all sport, exercise and bikes (he owned 8!) and famously completed the NZ Iron Man, and even an Iron Man triathlon with a failed cruciate and cartilage damage in one knee.

Andrew was very proud of Rata and the whole team and this team will continue to deliver the Rata orthopaedic practice originally established by Andrew back in 2009.

In Andrew’s memory his wife Catherine and daughter Martha have suggested two animal focussed charities you may want to donate to - ....  Please do leave a message for Catherine and Martha, and the Rata team, to read if you wish to do so.
