Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit My Just Giving page.
I am taking part in the New York Marathon (and hopefully completing it!) in memory of my Mum, Sylvia Beverley.
My Mum sadly lost her battle with Ovarian Cancer shortly before Christmas in 2009. She was cared for in her final days at Dr Kershaw’s Hospice, Oldham. The attention and care they gave to my Mum was unbelievable and I have always vowed to do something in return.
Although I have previously given donations to the Hospice I promised myself that I would give myself a real challenge and try and raise as much money as possible and so this is it. Although I have been a bit of a runner for a number of years, those who know me well will know that any form of exercise is always secondary to my socialising and so the prospect of running a Marathon has been very daunting in terms of finding the time to train and learning to say “no” every so often to going out!
I’ve been training for a few months now and feel like I can give it a good
shot.
The picture above is of me and my Daughter Molly on Brooklyn Bridge after running across it and was taken on holiday last year; at that point I didn’t know I would be returning so soon to New York to run again, although I may well be a little more tired this time ! Unfortunately Molly won’t be accompanying me (she reckons she could easily fit in my suitcase!) but good friends Steve Herring from Didsbury and Jason Corbett from Sydney will be.
Please note that any donations given to this fundraising will be matched by the Company I work for.
The hospice provides a range of services tailored to those within the community living with life-limiting illnesses, along with their families. This page has been set up to raise funds for the hospice who cared for my Mum as a way of saying thank you and to help other people in similar circumstances.
Your much-appreciated donation will go a long way in helping other families during
very difficult times.
Thank you for donating
