Story

Just two people and one brave dog, the wilds of the river Great Ouse and a canoe thats definitely seen better days....sound like an interesting challege???  ...Wyboston to St. Neots (going the extra mile for charity)!

Ollie and I are taking part in The Blue Mile, it is a fantastic opportunity to explore the wildlife down our local river at Wyboston and more importantly to help save the amazing animals that live in our rivers and oceans like otters and turtles!

I remembered seeing a battered old canoe in amongst car parts in ollie's parents' garden and thinking it would be fun to test it out.  It didnt take long to persuade my fiance to go for this challenge as 1) we already had means to get up the river.. and 2) he is after all half way round the world driving an ambulance to Mongolia with out me! :)

How the canoe came to be in the back garden is one of the Curtis family's many wild and adventurous stories....all I can say is that it has been dragged for miles and miles so we will soon test out how water worthy it is! :)

*Updates 5/09/2011*

*After much deliberation about the weather being very bad on Sunday 4th September we decided to try our hand at the challenge.  We carried the canoe 1/4 of a mile to the river and started paddling upstream when, a short way into our journey, when the canoe decided to turn us out.  after being fully submerged we managed to kick and splash our way to the river bank pulling the canoe behind us. Cold and wet we dragged the canoe up the bank, emptied it of water and we layed in the sun to dry ourselves out before carrying it all the way back home.

We have not let our little mishap deter us from our goal so we will be attempting it next weekend.  Fingers crossed the weather holds out!*

We would really appreciate every little bit that you can give!! :)
