Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page. After doing my first Supersprint triathlon in 2011 for Challengers and my first Olympic distance in 2012...and then a 14km swim in the Thames in 2015 (which was HARD!) I wanted to do another "challenge" for them, so am attempting a half iron distance triathlon in the Cotswolds on Sunday 13th August 2017 (more info here http://www.113events.com/cotswold-classic/).  For those who don't know it's a 1.9km swim, a 90km bike finished with a half marathon.  I have tried one before - but unfortunately got two slipped discs in my back while training for it and had to pull out on the bike leg - but I WILL make it this time!!!!!

I have a few problems with the tendons in my feet/legs, particularly after falling and facturing my ankle and snapping some tendons in 2010 (thanks to my hypermobility syndrome!) which didn't mend properly so I am hoping they will last to at least get me through walking the half marathon after doing the swim and bike!  I'm not training for the full half marathon as I don't think my ankles would take it - I'm training to be able to run/walk 5km off the bike - so the rest will all be in the mind to get me across the finish line, probably walking most of it!

EDIT: To make things just that little bit more of a challenge I was hit by a drunk driver while cycling (in a cycle lane!) in Majorca in February. I've been in and out of hospital for tests and treatment ever since and am currently waiting to have a scan on my legs to work out why they're not repairing as they should.... so I'm limited as to the training I can do but I'm doing as much as I can (without ruining my chances of recovering from the crash fully) so I can CROSS THAT FINISH LINE. Excuse my French but nothing is bloody well stopping me getting across that line!

Why am I doing it? Because Challengers are an amazing charity and provide a vital support for children and young adults with disabilities, as well as their families. And every penny we can raise will make a difference. I've spent time with the children and young adults, and their families that use the centres and they get such a HUGE amount of help from them...you couldn't even begin to imagine what a difference Challengers make to some of them, they're an absolute lifeline so I REALLY want to help them to help more families.

If you would have a few pennies to spare that would be HUGELY appreciated.

About the charity

All children need to play, but for disabled children it is essential to help them reach their full potential. Challengers provides numerous play schemes for disabled children from across the South East. However, there are hundreds of children missing out every day and your gift can help them play.
