Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
In April this year I ruptured a tendon to my thumb and had to have a tendon transplant. This means I had more than 6 weeks off the bike and I'm just starting to ride again. The build up will be tough knowing I have to ride more than 100 miles a day, for 9 consecutive days, in September!
I’m t’Pro Vice Chancellor and Professor of Physical Chemistry at the University of Sheffield. I moved to Sheffield in 1997 and have been Head of the Chemistry Department, Director of the Polymer Centre and Divisional Director of research for Physical Science. Sheffield University is a great place to work and my job as Pro Vice Chancellor exposes me to all sorts of reserach and its societal relevance.
I’ve been a keen supporter of the hearing research group in the Biomedical Science Department as the Faculty PVC, the overwhelming appeal of this project is that it supports local groups coping with hearing loss at the same time as doing world class research.
I’ve have two close friends who are deaf in one ear, one that he eats & drinks with and sit's on the right, the other that he cycles with and rides on the left. So I know how important hearing is to people’s quality of life. And mine isn’t improving with age……..
