The target £156 could run Macmillan Cancerline for an hour, providing, on average, 13 people affected by cancer with essential information and support. In peak hours the Cancerline team receive 76 calls per hour.

So how did it go? I ran 13.1 miles in 2 hours and 21 minutes- am very pleased, that's a respectable time for a plodder like me. I did 12 miles in 2 hours but the last mile took a woeful 21 minutes despite emergency jellybabies. The last mile was quite convoluted- spectators were shouting "Not long now!" but everytime I turned a corner it seemed Broad St was not in sight...and then it was, I broke into a sprint energised by the propect of being closer to my rucksack (stashed at the NIA) that was filled with chocolate! The photo on this page captures that urgency! It was a good day- support from family, friends (Thank you Hazel for waiting at the top of Maryvale Rd- what a star!) and complete strangers- the man shouting "Tough it out" at 9 miles gave me a mantra to keep me going (other than "Green & Blacks! Green & Blacks!"). Thanks to the Macmillan team and all spectators cheering us in the drizzle- it really does lift your spirits!
