Story
Bath Amphibians is a Triathlon club based in the lovely city of Bath. We are a friendly bunch who enjoying training and racing together. Since lockdown we haven't been able to see much of each other physically but the club has maintained its sense of camaraderie putting on a brilliant virtual training programme, keeping the competitive spirit alive with a Bake off and quizzes and "racing" each other in a virtual duathlon.
So when we heard about our long-standing club member Adam Malin's terrible and life-altering accident we all agreed to harness our competitive spirits and channel them into supporting a fantastic charity.
Adam had a horrific accident whilst cycling in New Zealand which has resulted in spinal injuries and partial paralysis. The accident happened just prior to lock down and whilst Adam is ready to come home, the small matter of a global pandemic has left him stuck in Auckland. Adam's positive attitude and incredible spirit has inspired us all.. so now we are going to race him home!!
It's over 11,000 miles from Auckland to Bath. Our club members are going to swim, bike and run the distance (obviously in line with all the COVID rules) starting on 1st June 2020. We'll be logging our miles in Strava and marking our "arrival" at various cities along the way.
We have chosen to support The Back Up Trust as a charity that does fantastic work with people affected by spinal chord injury. The charity help individuals and families rebuild their independence, challenging the perceptions of what is possible.
