We are an inclusive global movement working to restore balance between humanity & Ocean

Story

Starting on World Oceans day, 8th June 2021, I will be travelling around the whole of the UK on a challenge to clean up Britain's beaches. My aim is to visit, and do beach clean ups, on 30 beaches in 14 days. Am I slightly crazy, yes, is it for an amazing cause, definitely!

Why am I doing this?
Two main reasons...

Firstly, as many of you know I work for Steppes Travel. Whilst the last 14 months have been tough for the travel industry, we are now having to adapt ourselves at Steppes and like many others are focusing on travel in the UK. The UK has an incredible amount to offer, but we need to look after it and picking up litter is a simple but incredibly effective to do this. My aim is to encourage as many people as possible to join me, at the beach, or if you cant join me in person, join me in spirit and take part in a litter pick up in your local area. Its something you can do alone, with friends, with your family, or groups.

Secondly
, Conservations charities, such as Ocean Generation have also had a tough year, with donations down and no governmental support, I wanted to take this opportunity to raise awareness and support the amazing work they do. Having travelled with Jo Ruxton, the Founder of Ocean Generation, on a trip in the Arctic a couple of years ago, she really needs an incredible amount of credit for getting the conversation started regarding single use plastics. I'd love to achieve my target of £1250 to donate to Ocean Generation and get more people interested in the incredible work they do.

So, what do they do...Ocean Generation combines Plastic Ocean's decade-long experience of science and storytelling with the fresh energy of youth collective, Ocean Generation Foundation. After raising awareness about Ocean plastic pollution through ‘A Plastic Ocean’ documentary – praised by Sir David Attenborough as “one of the most important films of our time” – they’re now focusing on Ocean Action. Ocean Generation are growing an inclusive global movement to tackle a wide range of Ocean threats and influence policy change, together.

Please donate, or arrange a local litter pick up in your area, or best of all, donate and do a litter pick up.

Thank you for all your support. I will be posting my full route in the next few days.

*As I will be driving the route, to offset my carbon emissions from my car, I will be planting trees to offset the fuel.

We tackle Ocean threats by turning Ocean Science into understandable, practical tools; engaging people through film and popular culture; and running engagement programmes for youth. As the first generation to deeply understand Ocean issues, we’re also the last generation who can stop them.
