To celebrate the end of our 40 Anniversary year, we are launching our special Beanstalk ‘£40k in 40 days’ campaign.
Our aim is to raise £40,000 by the end of the year so that an additional 200 children will be able to benefit from the precious one-to-one support our dedicated reading helpers provide.
The recent provisional SATs results show that one in seven children left primary school in England this summer unable to read to the required standard. That is an increase on last year and is over 75,000 children who face an uncertain future.
In addition, a recent report from the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development has highlighted an alarming decline in literacy standards. England is currently ranked 22 out of 24 developed nations for literacy and 21st for numeracy.
If we don’t act now thousands of children will be unable to catch up and will face a lifetime of underachievement and social/economic exclusion, which is a daunting prospect for them and a huge loss to society
We are, therefore, appealing to you and your family and friends to make a donation, however large or small, this Christmas to help us get one step closer to a nation of confident children who can read and grow up to lead successful lives.
