Story
I am proud to be one of 15 dedicated fundraisers running the London Landmarks Half Marathon on 12 April 2026 to raise awareness and funds in aid of the Addison's Disease Self-Help Group (ADSHG).
In 2017 my brother was diagnosed with Addisons Disease, or adrenal insufficiency. This means that his adrenal glands do not produce the steroid hormones that his body needs that are essential for life. It’s a rare condition that occurs in approximately 1:10,000 people of all ages and gender and there is currently no cure. This means he has to take medication at-least 3 times a day, every day, for the rest of his life. If his body experiences physical or severe emotional stress (illness, injury, etc.) he has to take additional medication to meet the needs of his body.
If he does not take his medication, he is at risk of a life threatening emergency called an adrenal crisis. Himself and all of his close family need to be trained to administer an emergency injection which is time-critical, life-saving medical treatment.
This year I’ve been working on my physical and mental health and running has been a big part of that. It’s helped me get in the best shape I’ve been in for a long time and it’s got me out of the house which is great for mental health. So I thought why not use that to support all of the amazing work that the Addisons Disease Self Help Group do.
In April 2026, I will be running the London Landmarks Half Marathon to raise awareness and money for all people affected by Addisons Disease and to support the ADSHG.
Any donations, whether it’s 1p or £100, are massively appreciated and will help support ADSHG and everyone affected by Addisons Disease.
Thank you!
At the ADSHG, everything they do is driven by a bold vision:
"A world where Addison’s disease and adrenal insufficiency are recognised early and managed effectively so that anyone affected can live confidently and thrive."
With our help, they’re working to make that vision a reality. Every penny and pound we raise can make a big difference to this small charity!
The Addison’s Disease Self-Help Group (ADSHG) is the UK charity supporting everyone affected by Addison’s disease and adrenal insufficiency.
