We are incredibly grateful to our runners for taking on this challenge to raise awareness and funds for our charity. Every penny raised helps us support people affected by Addison's disease and adrenal insufficiency.

What is adrenal insufficiency, including Addison’s disease? 💭

Addison’s disease and adrenal insufficiency are rare endocrine conditions in which the adrenal glands stop working properly. This means the body can no longer produce enough essential steroid hormones, such as cortisol, which are vital for life.

An inherent complication of this rare condition is the risk of a life-threatening adrenal crisis, triggered by low cortisol levels, when the body is under physical or emotional stress. An emergency hydrocortisone injection, which can be life-saving in the event of an adrenal crisis.

The Addison’s Disease Self-Help Group (ADSHG) is a small, rare disease charity supporting people affected by adrenal insufficiency, including Addison’s disease.
